Riparian Work: Photographs by Jim Klukkert at August Gallery is the premiere exhibition of images from Klukkert's four year project on the Pojoaque River. It is also Jim Klukkert's first major solo exhibition in thirteen years, and represents an important milestone in Klukkert's extensive and wide ranging artistic career.

Jim Klukkert first photographed in earnest as a free lance underground press journalist in the early 1970's, covering the Irish struggle in Belfast, and Black Power politics, Native American Land seizures and other issues in California. Klukkert studied at Aperion Workshops, Millerton, New York, and received his Master of Fine Arts from Tyler School of Art of Temple University, Philadelphia. Klukkert taught fine art photography at the State University of New York, and at the International Center for Photography before moving to Santa Fe in 1985.

In his first decade in Santa Fe, Klukkert worked at Andrew Smith Gallery, as a volunteer for the Santa Fe Center for Photography, and as an art critic with pieces appearing in The Santa Fe Reporter, Artweek and in various gallery catalogues. As a long time social activist, Klukkert contributed opinion pieces to The New Mexican and the Albuquerque Journal, and worked for the Dennis Kucinich 2004 Democratic Presidential Primary campaign.

Jim Klukkert has exhibited his work at a number of venues in Santa Fe, including the Museum
of Fine Art
of the Museum of New Mexico, Shidoni Gallery, and the Armory of the Arts. Klukkert has been featured on KMIK-AM and KLSK-FM radio programs, and given Museum of Fine Art Gallery Talks. Klukkert's work is in a number of collections, including the Albuquerque Museum and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Mexico.

Klukkert has had numerous solo exhibitions nationally, including Blue Sky Gallery, Portland, Oregon; Photography Gallery of the 92nd Street Y, New York City; University of Arizona, Tucson; Parson School of Design, New York; the University of Vermont, Burlington; Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana; and the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Klukkert has also given workshops or lectures for institutions including The Light Factory, Charlotte, North Carolina; the University of Iowa, Iowa City; and Bard College, Annandale- On-Hudson, New York. Klukkert has numerous publication credits for his commercial and fine art photography, including Afterimage, Artforum, Art In America, New Mexico Magazine, Movie Maker Magazine and The Magazine.

In July 2005, Klukkert curated and exhibited work in the multimedia exhibition, The Duke City Shootout: Photographs, Films & Commentaries at the Kimo Theatre in Albuquerque. Portions of that work will be on view at the Santa Fe Community College in the exhibit Careers in Film and Video: Behind the Scenes Photographs by Jim Klukkert and Sam McFarlane, opening March 2 and continuing through April 21, 2006.
